SANTA POD

"Run What Ya Brung!!!"

Sunday 26th January 2003

Santa Pod Raceway, Poddington, Bedfordshire

A rather depressing day at the pod this time! Far too many cars meant that not many of us could get on the track, and the conditions were just awful with damp, overcast conditions. They only ran 1/8 mile up until lunch and finally opened the full strip in the afternoon, but the track was so damp it was impossible to get the power down, so everyone was getting pretty poor times.

However, this didn't deter Andre and another individual who just happened to turn up (sorry, forget your name - hope you join the club!).

Myself, well, I wasn't bothered about running, after spending the last couple of years using a digital camera with a slow shutter speed and little control over exposure, I fancied going back to my photographic roots. I dug out my trusty old Nikon FM, fitted an MD12 motordrive and 35-105 Vivitar zoom and I was pleasantly surprised with the results. Most of these pictures were taken at a speed of around 1/125th with an aperture of around F1:4 on Fuji Superia ISO 400 film. The only thing that lets all this down is my scanner (an HP ScanJet 4200C) which I absolutely detest and really must get around to replacing! I also have a couple of decent Nikon lenses on order (can forget the Vivitar crap from now on!), and the Nikon FE I won off eBay turned up today, so I plan on doing a lot more "non-digital" photos in the future.

Didn't really take a note of any of the times, Andre still hasn't managed a sub-14 time, although he reckons if the conditions were better he would have "cracked" it (yeah, where've I heard THAT one before?!!!). Anyway, here's the photo's...

Fell in love with this new Nissan 200SX thingy - very mean looking

A couple of arseholes!

Another couple of arseholes!

Ok, I was getting a bit bored! ;-)

And we're off...!

Ewan, searching for the burger bar!

As you can see, it's pretty grim.

Yeah, Evo vs Scooby and look who's winning!

There were quite a few supras running.

This Skyline made an awful racket but didn't half shift and was well worth watching!

Yeah, a GTO - go go go! Damn good photo!

Bit of a scooby gathering (hiss, boo!)

Yey, go Andre! Pretty good photo too.

Unknown geezer!

NSX

Andre again.

No contest! ;-) And another great pic.

Awww, ain't that nice, GTO in the foreground too.

And another to finish the day (and the film) off. Probably my favourite pic of the day!
